HSPT® SCORE RESULTS’ DISTRIBUTION

With the beginning of a new year, many parents may be wondering on their child’s HSPT® results. While many assume that the HSPT® score distribution system is similar to college entrance exams, like the SAT and ACT, it is actually quite different. There is no national coding system for the HSPT®.

Many high schools test independently, so the results for the students that test there are sent only to that location. In some geographic regions, a cooperative of high schools test collectively, often under the direction of a Catholic diocesan education department. In these cases, students may be presented with the option of sending their scores to several different high schools by coding them on their answer sheet on that test day. In addition, answer sheets need to be correctly coded to ensure that the results are sent to the appropriate school(s).

When testing in a cooperative program, the scoring of test results is often delayed until all schools answer sheets are in. When the scoring center has completed the scoring, results are then sent back to the school where the child tested and the school(s) the child coded. Whether the school tests individually or cooperatively, the act of distributing test results to students and their families are always determined by the school or diocese. Therefore, many times results are not sent directly to their home.

If you have not yet received a copy of your test results and you believe you should have, or if you need to have your scores sent to another high school, the first step is always to contact the school where the child tested. Since the schools and dioceses determine their own score distribution system, we cannot send results to a student or parent.

Happy New Year!

    A Parent Asks:

What do the numbers mean under the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Choice section in the
upper right section of this report?

    My son has 12, 01, and 04 respectively for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

These numbers are not explained anywhere.

    STS Replies:

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices selected by a student are the schools they
have chosen to receive their test results. The (code) numbers used for
those choices (schools) are pre-assigned and entered into our scoring
center’s system so the results can be sent to the appropriate schools.

Since there are three numbers/choices, the test results were sent to 3
    schools.

  2. Jim O'Keefe Says:

Where do I find what code designates what high school? My daughter’s results show H.S. Choice 2255. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks

    • ststesting Says:

The code given and used either represent the school where the test is being
taken or the school where the results are to be sent. To clarify which one
the code 2255 represents, you should contact her school or the school where
she took the test to have them inform you which schools are represented by
      which code numbers.

If you have any other questions, please let me know!!

I receive my dauhter HSPT score results today. Her CSQ score is 100 and the operational range is 55-145. Her GE scores are as follows: Reading 8.6, math 7.8 and Language 7.8.
Can you please explain to me what these scores mean?

Thank you for all your help,
    Louise

  4. Linda Myles Says:

My son has received his test scores from the HSPT what does the score at the very end mean Reading 9.1 Math 9.9 etc. does this mean this is the level he reading on. Secondly what does the CSQ score of 103 represent does this mean the child is an average student even if he his an honor roll student.

  5. Nancy Says:

So, how do I find out the codes for the Catholic high schools in my area?

  6. Nancy Says:

So, how do I find out the codes for:

    Regina High School, Warren MI
Mercy High School, Farmington Hills, MI
Bishop Foley High School, Madison Hts. MI

  7. Cheryl Penick Says:

My son is testing in one diocese (San Francisco), but he needs his scores sent to another (Oakland). Will the SF diocese share with the Oakland diocese? And will Oakland diocese accept results from the SF diocese?

    • ststesting Says:

The schools make the decision about sharing across boundaries. Contact the high school where the test will be taken to find out whether they will send the results to a school in another jurisdiction.
Best of luck to your student with the HSPT®.
