I was in band from 5th through 8th grade. We band members also took our art classes together on our off days from learning music. The best memory I can remember was during one of my art classes taught by Mrs. Burton, who had been afflicted with polio during her childhood, as she demonstrated how to draw a covered barn from visual imitation with a charcoal pencil. Her crippled hands floated over the sheet of paper as she held the pencil in the crook of her right hand. She completed the scene in no more than five minutes, the same time that it took for me to draw the shrub in the foreground.
